Summer means to many things to us. A break in our school year, camping, cookouts, swimming, but it also means something else…birthdays! The vast majority of our family celebrates their own special day during the summer months, and we do our absolute best every single year, to do something super special, and let the Birthday child choose their own outing, as well as birthday dessert. It’s kind of a tradition.
This year is no exception! Besides our normal summer birthday trips to the river, the campground, Silver Dollar City, etc…my youngest Augie, thought it would be super fun to have an ice cream cake! In the past, we’ve purchased the store bought variety, but I was never especially satisfied with the price tag, or the fact that there weren’t very many customization options, when it came to the ice cream flavors. After doing a bit of searching online, I decided to try my hand at creating one at home.
So, I set off with my list of ingredients, and headed to the grocery store. As you can imagine, Ice Cream is sorta the start of this show, and with the wide variety of flavors from Hiland (plus, they use the best quality products and local ingredients! ), I was able to customize the cake to our specific tastes. We chose the Featured Flavor, which is Outlaw Run! With Chocolate chunks and swirls of sea salted caramel in rich vanilla ice cream, it was sure to be a winner! Not to mention, my son got a little excited seeing the box, as he’s pretty anxious to head to Silver Dollar City and check out some new rides. We are only around an hour and a half away, and it’s definitely our favorite summer time destination.
Speaking of which, I just learned that Hiland is currently holding a super exciting contest in which you can win a prize package consisting of:
- Valued at approximately $1,000, this prize package includes:
- Four (4) 2-day passes to Silver Dollar City
- Four (4) passes to Showboat Branson Belle (each pass includes cruise, show and meal)
- One (1) Silver Dollar City meal card ($100.00 value)
- One (1) Visa prepaid cash card ($200.00 value)
Enter here!! https://ooh.li/f3f8f18
I don’t know about you, but I sure hope to win!
- Cake Ingredient:
- 2 56 Ounce Containers of your choice flavor Hiland Ice Cream, Softened
- 2 Cups Of Hot Fudge Sauce
- 1 Package of Chocolate Sandwich cookies, chopped finely
- Whipped Cream Frosting:
- 2 Cups of Heavy Whipping Cream
- 4-5 tablespoons of granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
- 1. Very lightly spray or butter a 10 inch springform pan.
- 2. Spread your first box of softened Hiland ice cream evenly in the bottom of your pan. Put in the freezer for 40 mins. Spread your hot fudge over the top of our ice cream once your 40 mins of freeze time is up, then sprinkle your chopped sandwich cookies. Press them gently into your hot fudge. Place back in the freezer for 40 mins. After 40 mins in the freezer, add your last container of Hiland Ice Cream to the top, and spread evenly. Freeze for at least 8 hrs, but I chose to freeze overnight.
- 3. When unmolding your cake from the springform, invert your cake onto a plate, and release the springform, and slide the pan off. If this does't work immediately place a hot towel or cloth around the pan for 20-30 seconds until it loosens. Remove the bottom of the pan, and top the cake with whatever you will be serving your cake on, and turn the cake right side up. Place your cake back in the freezer for a minimum of 20 mins.
- 4. While freezing, whip up your whipped cream frosting! Combine the ingredient and using a whisk, or whisk mixer ( whip on medium high ) until your whipped cream is fluffy and semi firm peak.
- 5. After you remove your cake from the freezer, spread the whipped cream frosting on your cake. Don't forget to work FAST! Then decorate as you see fit! I piped the whipped cream frosting on to the cake and used sprinkles! Pop your cake back in the freezer.
- 6. Remove your cake from the freezer no more than 5 mins before serving, these babies get soft...fast.
This cake was extremely easy to make. Honestly. I found that the most difficult part of the process was keeping the cake from melting while I was decorating, and transporting for the last steps…
Tip: When spreading your hot fudge, make sure that it is at room temp, or warm it up slightly if it has been refrigerated, so that it spreads easily.
Despite my instructions, I only added one layer of ice cream, because I used the wrong springform pan…oops! It was still super delicious, and we really enjoyed the cookie acting as a “crust”.
I was super pleased with how my cake turned out, especially being made with the Hiland Outlaw Run ice cream! It gave it an extra something, and far outdid any store bought cake we have EVER purchased.
This cake is now an absolute family favorite, and Mr. Augie was quite impressed! I definitely see this being a new summer favorite, as well as a new Birthday tradition!
You know the thing about ice cream? It melts 😀 But truly, the cake held it’s shape perfectly, we just lost a bit of our whipped cream icing along the way. The cake was still absolutely the most amazing we have had, and we learned exactly how long the cake should be left out of the freezer before serving. It definitely made for some giggles, some ice cream licking, and an overall blast! #noregrets
Check out the super duper cute video we created sharing our new summer tradition, our Hiland ice cream, and my little guys own version of our Ice Cream Cake how-to! Movie nights are a tradition in our household, and nothing is more fun than themed movie nights! With our tight budget and schedule, keeping it simple is definitely a top priority when selecting our treats and activities. In celebration of the NEW Ghostbusters on BluRay ( check out the trailer here! ), our most recent Friday night was spent creating delicious, yet super simple Ghostbusters inspired treats and even a craft of sorts.
The night was a definite success, and took less than an hour for all of our prep, not to mention we spent very little out of pocket to make it happen. For our snacks, we decided to go with a “Slimer Popcorn”, Classic Popcorn with green sprinkles and to wash it down, a homemade Ecto Cooler! To make things extra interesting ( and a little messier! ), we also whipped up a batch of green slime! The kids had a blast creating their treats and slime, but had an even better time kicking back and watching the NEW 2016 Ghostbusters movie ( which they loved! )available on BluRay, DVD and 4KUltra HD.
Here are the simple steps we took to create an absolutely fabulous, family movie night that will not soon be forgotten!
When thinking about snacks for our movie night, I instantly thought popcorn, because who doesn’t like popcorn on movie night? But to jazz it up and give it that Ghostbusters feel, I decided to created a “Slimer Popcorn”. I tossed around a few ideas on how to create this, even looked up a few recipes, but most seemed a little more complex/complicated that I would have liked, so I decided to take the simple route and come up with my own little twist on a marshmallow popcorn.
What you need: Popcorn, Marshmallow Cream ( I used one container per bag, but its really about preference ) and Green Food coloring.
1. Pop your popcorn using your preferred popcorn and method.
2. Put your popcorn in an appropriate sized bowl/container.
3. Empty your marshmallow cream into a microwave safe bowl/container.
4. Warm up your marshmallow cream. Microwaves vary, but ours seemed to be a nice slightly liquid consistency at around 45 second.
5. Stir in your food coloring. The amount is up to you depending on the shade of slime green you are going for.
6. Pour your marshmallow cream over the top of your popcorn and mix it around, covering your popcorn. I mixed gently as to not crush the popcorn.
7. Let the mixture cool. It’s an absolute mess to try and serve or eat while in the gooey state. Once it cools, it is a whole lot easier to serve/eat.
Next, we created our own version of an Ecto Cooler. This was also a very simple, inexpensive treat and I definitely suggest giving it a try!
What you need:
¾ cup tangerine juice
¾ cup orange juice
1 scant tablespoon powdered lemonade mix
2 packets of orange-drink mix
10 to 14 cups water
1½ cups sugar
Green food coloring
1. Pour tangerine juice and orange juice into a 1 gallon container. Add lemonade mix and the orange drink mix. Stir until completely dissolved.
2. Pour in water. Add sugar. Stir until completely dissolved.
3. Add 4 to 5 drops of green food coloring, or more depending on the shade of green you are going for!
4. Pour into clear glasses for the full Ghostbusters effect!
These are super tasty drinks, and there are even cocktail recipes available online for a more adult spin!
Last, but certainly not least—especially in the kids minds, we made slime. We chose to make ours a bit thicker, because, while I am a “cool” mom ( in my mind! ) who does things like make slime with her children, I was a little terrified of having anything too slimy near my furniture ( hey, even cool mom’s have their limits! ). Here is the recipe that we used to create our slime–note, when adding the food coloring, you CAN create solid colors, my kids were extremely pleased with the green tie dye effect, and we chose to leave it that way, and I have to admit, it does look pretty darn cool!
What You Need:
White School Glue
In a bowl mix 1/2 cup (4 oz) glue and 1/2 cup water. Add food coloring–we used green.
In your other bowl, mix 1 teaspoon borax with 1 cup water until the borax is completely dissolved.
Add the glue mixture to the borax solution, stirring slowly.
The slime will begin to form almost immediately; stir, knead with your hands.
This slime was a ton of fun, but a little messy. It will also stick to fabric, so please keep that in mind with this project. My kids thoroughly enjoyed playing with their slime, stretching it out and even making the occasional not so polite noises that kids seem to enjoy so very much. All in all, this was a fun project, despite the mess and rude noises, and I think we will definitely be making it again in the future.

Recently, after a visit to my Mother in Law’s home, I made the discovery that not only was she desperately in need of some help with organization, but that she is lonely. Living a few hours away, it makes it hard to visit her as often as we would like and with her progressing age and recent passing of her husband, she isn’t able to keep up with house hold tasks and keeping things quite as organized as she once was, or would like.
I made the decision to treat her to a little mini-bathroom makeover when I realized this one of the places she most desperately needed a touch of organization. She welcomed this idea, especially when she realized how simply and quickly it could be done!
We decided to use items already available around the house. She chose a few small decorative pieces to add a touch of color, as well as a few baskets that weren’t already in use.
I set to work cleaning, organizing and rearranging all of her bathroom necessities, really trying to focus on placing the items she uses the most, at an easy convenient location for her, and placed in a way that makes it simple for her to reach and clean,
One of the items that she uses most frequently and she had in the most inconvenient location, were her Poise® Pads – maximum Absorbency that we purchase on our bi-weekly trips to Sam’s Club ( though I do love that they have the option to shop online available! SamsClub.com )
FYI: When you open your Poise Packaging when purchased from Sam’s Club, there will be a sticker located inside that is redeemable for a Caregivers Sample Pack at the Sam’s Club Pharmacy! How cool is that?
Poise® Maximum Absorbency Pads offer a fantastic absorbancy that gives not only protection but confidence! These Pads have an absorb-loc® core, that keeps away wetness and odor, not to mention the leak block sides that provide worry free protection! These our my dear mother in law’s go to pads for the ultimate protection, and provide her with such a sense of relief and confidence that makes her life a little more worry free! I am so thankful that products like Depend as well as Poise have made things so much simpler and hassle free for those, like my mother-in-law, who struggle with bladder leakage. Knowing that she has comfort and protection from leaks, gives her a sense of confidence, that I feel that in her progressing years, she seems to feel as though she is losing with her declining independence.
To start the process of organizing we:
- Evaluated her needs
- Sorted through her clutter and chose what to keep and what not to keep
- Organized the products that were most important to her
- Stored them in their new designated containers
- Arranged said containers in a beautiful, yet functional location
- Added small accents to really liven up the area
Once we completed all of these steps, we also added a few small touches around the rest of the bathroom, such as a decorative hook right next to her shower, to hang her shower cap and washcloth. Then we stored away the rest of the things that she decided to keep but weren’t quite as necessary in her day-to-day routine, and made things a whole lot tidier and functional.
Giving back to those who have not only paved the way for us, is not only a nice thing to do, it is important. In our fast paced society, it’s easy to forget that not only do we owe our thanks, but our time and dedication to providing a comfortable, joy filled life for those who have provided and taught us throughout the years.
Simple, even inexpensive acts of kindness, can make all of the difference in a person’s life. Even something a simple as organizing a bathroom. #CaringMadeEasy
Helpful Tip: Downlooad the Digimarc Discovery App and scan your packaging anywhere to direct you to the Sam’s Club Caregivers website! This is such a convenient way of making the information you need readily available!
I would love to hear from you about not only your favorite Poise of Depends product, but what you have done to give back to our elders, or just how they have enriched your life! Comment Below!

When faced with that unpleasant monthly visitor that most of us ladies are fairly familiar with, I used to cringe. I wanted to curl up in my blankets and hide. But that was the past. Now, I have embraced the the beauty that though sometimes uncomfortable and lets face it, sometimes down right painful comes with being a woman. This didn’t come easy, however, I have learned to celebrate my womanhood. With that celebration, I had to ask myself what’s better than a BIG pan of brownies to make you feel all warm and fuzzy? Caramel Brownies, that’s what!
Each month, I have made it a tradition to not only whip up a batch of delicious Caramel Brownie goodness, but curl up with a comfy blanket, no longer hiding and have a total pig out movie marathon! No good movie marathon is complete without some of my very favorite flicks from the 80’s, you know the ones! There is just something so comforting about feeling like I’m a kid again, curled up with my Mom, eating our brownies and watching all of our favorites! Remembering what matters most to me, especially when things are tough, definitely helps keep my spirits up and my bad mood away.
Even if you aren’t currently entertaining your monthly visitor, these brownies are to die for! Here is a rundown of my recipe for the super ooey gooey delicious caramel brownies that not only make my life a little bit easier, but makes just about any celebration a whole lot better!
- 14 tablespoons unsalted butter —1 3/4 sticks
- 1⁄2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons bittersweet chocolate chips
- 1 1⁄4 cups sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla
- 1⁄2 cup unbleached flour
- 2 tablespoons unbleached flour
- pinch of salt
- 30 small caramels–optional
- Grease a 9×9 inch baking pan with butter; dust with flour and preheat oven to 350°.
- Melt butter and bittersweet chocolate in saucepan over low heat, stir often; let cool.
- Cream sugar, eggs, and vanilla, add cooled chocolate mixture; mix well.
- Sift together flour and salt into the chocolate mixture.
- Mix batter until combined- At this point I melted my caramels and added them to the batter, this is optional and the brownies are totally delicious, even without.
- Spread the batter in the pan; bake 30 minutes — or until you can pull out a clean toothpick.
Remove cool for 1 hour.

After going through my list of favorite summer dishes , I decided that I needed to shake things up a bit, and get a little creative. We eat a ton of fruits and veggies, and drink a lot of tea around our home, me being a vegan and all, so I set out to add a few new little fun summer twists to our recipe schedule of meals and treats.
When browsing recipes online, I came across an idea for a pasta salad that was basically an “everything but the kitchen” sink type thing, and I really kind of dug that idea. Why not just throw TONS of the tasty veggies into one fabulous salad and give it a taste. So I set out to find the perfect flavor combinations for our family, and here is what I came up with:
This is what I like to call my EVERYTHING Summer Pasta Salad. Using Barilla Whole Grain Rotini that I picked up at Walmart, I set out to create a fabulous pasta salad that everyone in my house would dig. Here’s what I used :
-1 Box of Barilla Whole Grain Rotini
- Red, Yellow and Orange Peppers ( we just added one whole, and several small, but this can be to your liking ) Chopped
- 1 Red Onion
- 2 Varieties of cherry type tomatoes
- 1 1/2 Avocado
- 2 Roasted Ears of Corn cut off the cob
- Shredded Parmesan Cheese
- 1 bottle of our favorite vinaigrette. We used a garlic flavored vinaigrette, but I’m sure just about any would be fabulous, so go wild! Vinaigrette’s are also quite simple to make yourself.
The great thing about this pasta salad, is you really cannot go wrong! Each ingredient can be measured to your specific liking or even omitted. I have a feeling there are so many other fabulous ingredients that would also work perfectly, but these were completely perfect for our taste buds!
This is a super simple dish to make, honestly, and I cannot believe it wasn’t already on our menu. All we did was start with our Barilla Whole Wheat Pasta, Italy’s #1 brand of pasta, followed the instructions on the back of the box, then once it was cooked, drained and rinsed our Rotini in cold water and put it to the side. We roasted our corn during this time and then cut it off of the cob. I then used my food processor to chop up my veggies, though doing it by hand works just as well.
At this point, the kids and I basically just dumped all of the ingredients ( veggies and dressing ) other than the cheese and pepitas in and gave it a really good even stir so that all of the veggies were evenly distributed.
Even though it was difficult to not just dig into, we covered our bowl with foil, and put it in the fridge for a few hours to cool everything down and give the flavors time to really settle and blend. Once it was time to serve, we topped each individual bowl with cheese and pepitas—( I don’t eat cheese, so doing it individually worked out best ).
This is a super light, amazing dish that makes a great addition to a meal, or can simply be served in a larger portion and is tasty enough to be the star of the meal! It’s light, bright and absolutely delicious!
Since we primarily drink tea in our house, I decided to add a few new favorites to our summer menu, using our old favorite Gold Peak Tea into the mix. I picked up a 6 pack of the Diet Gold Peak Tea from Walmart, and started brainstorming. In the end, I decided a infused tea would pair perfectly with our pasta salad, and I couldn’t have been more right!
Since Gold Peak is absolutely scrumptious on it’s own, I knew that it wouldn’t take much to come up with a tasty new spin that my kids would be sure to love.
For our drink, we simply took our favorite chilled Gold Peak Tea, poured it into a glass and added our most favorite fruits! We found that adding raspberries and letting them infuse into the tea for a bit was the most scrumptious combination. We garnished our glasses with strawberries, which was a big hit with the kids and definitely gives the table setting a little something extra!
These drinks are absolutely delicious, refreshing and since we used diet tea and only fruit as our added flavoring, still a very health conscious choice as well.
For our dessert/cold summer treat, we decided to stick with the tea theme, and make fruity tea pops! Think super delicious tea infused frozen goodness! This was also SUPER simple, which I love…
For these pops, basically all you need is your Gold Peak Tea ( sweetened is the best option for this ), popsicle molds and fruit. I personally chose to use pureed frozen peaches, raspberries and mint leaves.
Using frozen peaches that I ran through my food processor seemed to work out the best, I even just stuck my mint leaves in at the same time, which seemed to spread them evening throughout the mixture. The rest was simple, I filled the molds up about half way with my Gold Peak Tea, and then just dropped in my fruit. I added only peach and mint to a few, then threw raspberries in the mix as well. We froze our pops for around four hours, ran the molds under hot water, and then had not only tasty, but BEAUTIFUL frozen treats that I think are great for not only the kids, but adults as well. They have a very clean crisp refreshing taste, and are just sweet enough to really cure my craving for cool refreshing sweet treats.
I had a lot of fun creating these very crisp, healthy summer time menu additions and will definitely go perfectly along side our traditional summer grilling parties! They are simple, quick and although delicious, are light enough to go perfectly with a hot summer day backyard barbecue.

If you are like me and LOVE to collect kitchen gadgets, pots pans and even hoard up on gourmet ingredients, you just may have the same ever growing problem that I have began to encounter, and that is running out of space. My family and I live in a home built over 100 years ago. Though it has been added on to over the years, the kitchen is pretty darn tiny, and at least 1/4 of the cabinets are basically hidden by our stove.
For the last year or so, we have started experiencing extreme growing pains kitchen wise…as my love to cook, youtube canning videos increased and my hoard of kitchen supplies grows, so did our ( and especially my husband’s ) irritation. We were forced to shove things back in to corners, things fall out of the cabinets when we open them and we can never find ANYTHING when we need it.
So what could we do? Besides doing an extreme downsize, which I didn’t want to do ( Hey! I need those gadgets to bring you all great recipe posts! ) the only other option was to get organized! But organization costs money! Money that we don’t have! So I sat down, laptop in hand and decided to watch some of my very favorite Youtubers get organized, use their ideas and try and create ways of recreating these tips—but on an EXTREME budget.
While reviewing has afforded me a few storage options that I might otherwise not have, I still needed a lot! So what did I do ? I hit the dollar stores—and had it been Garage Sale season, I would have hit those too!
After stocking up on quite a few containers and bins, I cleaned out my cabinets and forced myself to remove all of the things I didn’t absolutely need or love. This ended up being much easier than anticipated, and I am going to be honest, I got two FULL trash bags full of things to either donate or get rid of . Next, I wiped out all of my cabinets, and started organizing. I used bins from the dollar store to store like objects. This allowed me to stack higher, but still be able to open my cabinets without an avalanche as well as add labels, meaning things wouldn’t be so easily lost. This worked out really well in ALL of my cabinets. Dishes and food alike.
We also got rid of a ton of our random drinking glasses, donated them and then decided to switch to all like mason jars instead! Canning jars are much more inexpensive than buying a set of drinking glasses and even cheaper ( and sturdier ) than picking glasses up for the dollar store–and they look neater too! With CHEAP matching glasses, it was much easier to fit all of our glasses into our cabinet in a uniform fashion.
Simple steps like grouping like items and really thinking about the shape and area your items take up really helps! Honestly, I had never really thought it through too much, I moved in, loaded the stuff in the cabinets and started collecting.
I also organized my pantry cabinets, I put extras of things that I already have in the fridge, like our BODYARMOR super drink bottles that I pick up at my local Target ( they are also available at Jewel and Meijer locally to me ) We keep a supply in the bottom of the fridge, but for our extras, I decided to keep them stored inside of a container, so they are neat, tidy and I can easily pull the ENTIRE basket out, which definitely saves time when unloading them and loading them into the fridge when we are ready for them to be chilled.
Next, we added a spice rack organizer! This isn’t especially cheap, but it really did save on space and gave us a LOT more room. I will link you to the organizer here, and you can check it out! I also got cheap jars and put things like rice, beans, noodles and even our in a hurry flake potatoes. This means I can fit more in a smaller space, no resealing packages, or packages getting dumped over when we are hunting for another item. For the things like rice and potatoes, I removed the instructions from the box and used packing tape to stick them on the back of containers, that way we still know what we need to do to make our food. Taking things out of boxes and putting them into storage containers, even drink mixes and breakfast bars really saved us space! No more awkward shaped packages that take up a ton of extra space!
(One thing I would like to add, is that I did allow myself a few decorative storage options…old containers, cans etc to keep with my current theme and make things feel less sterile!)
Lastly, I organized my fridge. Yep, my fridge. I took all of my racks and drawers out, hosed them down with Dawn and vinegar in the tub and readjusted things inside the fridge to better suit our needs. This is something I hadn’t really considered before. I had always just used them as they came and crammed and stuff things in as I needed. The next step I planned on taking was adding some sort of liner– a shelf liner, something of that nature, but I decided against the liner I had on hand but plan on completing this step in the future.
After skipping that step, I placed baskets and bins in the fridge… this idea was questioned by my family, who have never heard of anyone doing this, but I think that it works fabulously! We have bins for certain food items, and those items ONLY. It makes it a lot neater in appearance and easier for the kids to put things back where they go. I plan on labeling them in the future, but even without the labels, the system works pretty well so far!
Next, I put my condiments into clear squirt bottles I purchased at Walmart for less than a dollar. Everything is uniform, neat and really fits into the baskets better. No odd shaped bottles to throw the system off!
The last things that I did was place a huge glass beverage dispenser on one of the shelves—we can fill this container with whatever beverage we like, and since it is so large, it can house several bottles of juice without taking up the space. It’s also easier for the kids to come push a button, than them getting out the jug and attempting to tip it up and pour their drinks. I love the addition.
( I have since added more mason jars for storage as opposed to the product jars )
I still have plans for storage in the kitchen–the number one thing on the agenda being a pot rack, but because most pot racks are on the expensive side, this is something I am going to save for and will add later.
These simple changes and cheap basket and bins have truly made all the difference in our available space, our stress levels and our day to day operation.
Though it’s still a tiny kitchen and these plastic bins might not be everyone’s cup of tea, they work beautifully in our home and I couldn’t be more pleased! Further proof that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make your life work for you and your family!

Recently while at my local Walmart, I was browsing the baby food aisle and came across lil’ Beanies by Gerber. My little guy was instantly drawn in after I showed him the packaging, and just had to have these “snackies”. After looking the packaging and ingredients over, I agreed and we headed on our way home with our goodies.
First thing when we got home, we obviously had to open up our lil’ Beanies ( I’m surprised me made it that long! ) and Immediately I was impressed with the smell! Thee snacks smell like something I would want to munch on, and they give off a snack food vibe without my little guy knowing they are actually good for him! I was definitely sold. And he liked them. He REALLY liked them.
In Original and White Chedder & Broccoli, he’s getting tons of delicious flavor along with healthy stuff for his growing active little body! lil’ Beanies are made from navy beans to deliver 2 grams of protein (9% Daily Value), 1 gram of fiber and 10% Daily Value of Vitamin E per serving, which is something this Momma can stand behind—not to mention they are non-GMO!
These snacks are extremely portable, making them easy to tote outside for his many adventures or to the park in our diaper bag for easy snacking and even sharing!
We have definitely found our go to snack for the summer—though I have a feeling these little gems will be sticking around with us all year long!
If you’re looking to fuel your toddler with healthy snacking options this summer, head on over and check out lil’ Beanies by Gerber and check out your local Walmart baby food aisle to pick up a few for yourself!
Which flavor do you think your little one would prefer??
As a mother of two boys, I am always looking for CUTE comfortable shoes and clothing. Over the years, I have grown frustrated with the hunt, and often times have resigned to purchasing pieces that might be comfortable, but aren’t all that cute.
When I discovered IFME, I was ecstatic! These are shoes for not only girls, but boys as well, and guess what? They are over the top adorable! After reading a few online reviews, I was also pretty convinced that these were a great choice as far as quality and comfort go as well.
When choosing sizes, I felt that the shoe ran pretty true to size, maybe a teensy bit big, but that is ALWAYS a good thing when it comes to purchasing shoes for growing kids. I was really impressed with the quality of the shoe, the materials and how they were made. My boys are notoriously hard on their footwear, and nothing ever seems to last very long, so quality shoes at reasonable prices are a biggie.
I love the bright vibrant colors, the fact that this particular pair matches with just about everything, and that HE himself is able to put the shoes on and be ready to go in seconds! These are definitely our new favorites, and he seems to be comfortable wearing these shoes while engaged in any activity, and best of all…if he jumps in a mud puddle? These are really easy to clean up. Love that.
Style, comfort, and odor protection ( using odor free fibers! ), makes these a really great, stylish option for boys and girls. I highly recommend checking these adorable shoes out for our favorite littles and maybe picking up a pair or two! .
“IFME was launched in 1999 as the original brand of Marubeni Footwear. With a priority on the healthy development of children’s feet, the brand was developed based on research and development with Japanese based medical professionals specializing in children’s feet. Since 2009 IFME had sold a total of 16 million pairs of shoes globally. IFME now boasts an extensive network of 1,800 stores in Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan and is launching in the U.S. in spring, 2016.
The name IFME, short for “IF it was ME,” reflects the brand’s deep commitment to customer satisfaction. This attitude is upheld throughout all aspects of production and distribution. The brand concept – making shoes that support the healthy development of children’s feet – remains at the heart of IFME.”

After years and years of struggling with my health, I finally decided to do something about it. Though a hard choice for some to imagine, I made the decision to become vegan and make healthier more mindful choices of what my family and I consume. Though my kids are not vegans, there are a WIDE variety of vegan friendly recipes that I have found my kids and I all enjoy, and have implemented them into our new healthier menu. One of said recipes, is a fabulous pasta bake that has become sort of a family night tradition around our place. It’s a super hearty, delicious, vegan friendly choice, that my kids have grown to look forward to, and enjoy every time it comes around!
One of my biggest struggles has been not only finding a sauce that works for me, but that tastes GOOD. Something that tastes homemade, without all of the effort! I’m a busy, busy Mom and simple is always a great thing. When Ragu released their new Ragu Homestyle Pasta Sauce, I was intrigued to say the least. We found ours at our local Walmart—though they are readily available at Target as well, and were quite pleased to discover that it was a sauce that could work in our house, and they had a Thick and Hearty Mushroom option. Mushroom sauces generally seem to be our favorites, and this one promised to be THICK, which is exactly what we love! The Ragu Homestyle definitely didn’t disappoint! I was so impressed, I took to the internet to see what others were saying, and everyone definitely seems to agree…it’s fabulous!
The pasta bake is a fairly simple recipe, but tastes SUPER delicious and leaves us all super full, and usually with leftovers for the next day. It’s definitely a go to meal and a new tradition of health and down right deliciousness! Though the recipe isn’t an exact science and can basically be tailored to your families specific tastes and dietary restrictions, here is how we like to do it using our Ragu Pasta Sauce:
- Whole Wheat Spaghetti Noodles
- Veggies of your choice--We used peppers, onions and mushrooms
- Olive Oil
- Lemon Pepper Seasoning
- Garlic Salt
- Ragu Homestyle Thick and Hearty Mushroom Pasta Sauce
- Vegan Cheese
- Preheat your oven to 350
- Cook your spaghetti ( No explanation needed, I hope )
- Cut or Chop up your veggies
- Put your veggies on a baking sheet and very lightly cover in olive oil ( emphasis on very light )
- Season veggies with Garlic Salt and Lemon Pepper Seasoning, again fairly light.
- Put the veggies in the oven and bake--oven times vary, so I would just watch and let them get soft
- Drain your spaghetti and set to the side if your veggies aren't done softening
- Once both components are finished, basically, I layer everything together in my skillet ( you can use a casserole dish or whatever you wish ) kind of like a lasagna. This is really up to you. I like to layer the vegan cheese inside of the dish and not add it to the top, vegan cheese never seems to fully melt, only soften, but get super gooey and delicious inside of the bake.
- Once you have assembled, place in the oven ( which should still be at 350), I basically just let it go for another 10 mins or so, but again, ovens vary, so this is really up to you and your preferences since the cheese never fully melts.
This is a really easy dish to play around with, obviously, and nothing other than making sure everything is properly cooked is set in stone. The sauce is so thick and delicious, this dish almost cannot go wrong!
Sharing family traditions, whether it be a fun weekly activity, a game night or even something as simple as sharing a favorite delicious meal can really bring a family closer together—and in our case, growing healthier together. I am proud to have implemented this new lifestyle and recipe into our chaotic life, and couldn’t be more proud to share this tradition with you, my other family!
What traditions do your family enjoy or hope to implement in the near future? Have you found them to bring you closer together as a family unit? Please share your ideas in the comments below! I know I am ALWAYS looking for fun new ideas to share with my kids and our little family!
One of my favorite summer time activities is to plant a garden. I absolutely love having fresh veggies in our home and being able to spend time with my family, especially my kids during the entire process, though to be honest, before last year, I was slightly daunted when thinking about including the kids. especially my younger two. Gardening can at times be such a delicate process, with precise steps, and as I am sure you all know, it requires patience.
After some thought, I did a little research on kid friendly plants, purchased small easy to use tools and decided to jump in, and now can’t imagine gardening without my little ones by my side. Below I have outlined a few of the simple steps we have followed to make the process easier and more kid friendly!
Our 1st step was to find seeds for plants that are kid friendly. While all fruits and veggies are great for little ones, some come up a bit quicker than others, great for little impatient gardeners! Carrots, Sugar Peas, Lettuce and Radishes are quick growers, to name a few.
Once we had our seeds, we began the process of beginning our 2nd step. Finding kid friendly tools and supplies. Bright colorful shovels, fun garden gloves and kid sized pots and containers ( which would be fun to decorate ) .It might even be a blast to create recycled containers. These little touches can really get the kids into the spirit of gardening and help them feel comfortable.
Even little tools and supplies originally intended for play are often times functional, and make things a lot more fun!
3rd step, in my opinion, is to be patient. Though gardening can be a delicate process, we have been growing plants since the beginning of time under all sorts of conditions and with varying amounts of experience, so good intentions of little bodies with the supervision of a patient adults are sure to be successful!
4th, Dig in! Get your dirt, your containers, your seeds and all of your supplies and get to work! Explain the steps to your little ones, slowly and patiently, step by step, such as : Add dirt/soil to your container ( sizes vary, obviously ), press your dirt down a bit, create a small hole to drop your little seed, cover with dirt and compact down a bit more and then add water. Though your process may vary, these instructions are simple enough for even toddlers to understand with some visuals!
5th, Encourage your children to check on their plants at certain times during the day. Creating a routine for times to check growth and watering, can help the little ones keep the patience required and gives them something to look forward to each day.
6th, though it might require an adult to do the transplanting to a larger container ( depending on the route you take/ pot size ) once that bit is done, continuing to water and maintain there plants is a snap! And then comes the fun part, picking the delicious goodies grown by little hands.
The process can be so rewarding, and teaches kids so many valuable lessons along the way. Gardening has definitely become one of my favorite ways to spend time with my children and I can’t imagine not being able to enjoy it with them for years to come, so when my arthritis in my knees started preventing me from enjoying kneeling in my garden and working with the kids, I was a little more than discouraged, to say the very least…
With more than 53 million Americans suffering from arthritis, I am among good company in my struggle so, I had to ask myself, what is the secret to living pain free and continuing to enjoy not only my daily life, but activities with my children—not letting the pain dictate my routines and activities.
After doing research, I found that Advil is an amazing relief, most recommended by doctors, above Tylenol AND Aleve**, I decided to give it a try, and with the NEW Easy Open Arthritis Cap, Advil has made it even easier for fellow suffers to access their Advil, without additional pain! I think Advil has thought of everything!
**Based on a survey of monthly doctor recommendations.
With my pain under control, I have been able to enjoy a fabulous spring full of planting and crafting without worry of pain from my arthritis stopping me—and what fun it’s been! This year we decided to paint garden rocks to label our little plants, which is another fun way to get the kids involved and crafty! #WhatInconvenience
We took flat, smooth garden rocks we purchased ( though, I’m sure these can be found as well! ) and acrylic paint, a few paintbrushes, and got to work! The kids decided to paint pictures of the plants themselves and to label them with the name as well. This is an activity even the smaller ones can enjoy with a little help!
After drying, I sprayed the rocks down with a clear sealer, I’m not sure this step is required, but I thought it was a smart precaution with these little rocks being out in the elements.
The kids truly enjoyed the additional gardening activities, and have now requested to paint more rocks to look like big bugs to frighten the littler ones away! What creative thinking!
Whether is gardening, painting rocks or just chasing my kids around in the living room floor, it’s extremely important for me to stay pain free and active for not only myself, but for my children.
I purchased my Advil with an Easy Open Arthritis Cap at my local Walmart, and it can also be purchased online making it super convenient for me to keep up with our hectic summer schedule, gardening and crafting without breaking a sweat!
What if anything, stops YOU from enjoying these fantastic spring and summer days, and what do you do to combat the inconvenience? Have you tried gardening with your little ones? Any helpful tips or tricks?

For the longest time, I have been super focused on being very cautious of what my family and I put into our body, food wise. Making sure to purchase healthy organic products, but never being as concerned with what we were putting on our body. With the fact that I love pampering my skin, using products that I put all over my body to not only take care of my skin, but to smell delicious, and keep my lips smooth and shiny, I began growing concerned about the quality and ingredients used in the products that I was putting onto myself in the past….so when I was introduced to Perfectly Posh, I was very excited to learn that their products are not only made in the USA, but are made from natural ingredients earth sourced from around the globe. I also love that there are no fillers and that there are many vegan options—something that is extremely near and dear to my heart! And you know what else? They don’t test on animals! Amazing!
I am very lucky to have found a very sweet, helpful and absolutely lovely consultant named Olivia! She has been helpful with all of my questions about not only products, but with all of my burning questions regarding becoming a consultant myself and joining her super awesome Ninja Team!

One of my favorite parts of summer is lying outdoors in the evenings, having some delicious snacks and with new technology, enjoying a good movie on our tablet, though it can also conveniently be watched on SmartTV. The breeze, the stars and spending time with my family is just made better with our favorite movies, and what a better way to accompany them, than with our favorite snacks.
With my recent purchase of the Cool Pad Rogue- $19.88 (Rollback from $39.83) from Walmart, I was not only able to get a super duper neat phone, but purchase my starter kit for $19.88 ( currently on rollback from from $25 for the first time ever, cheaper than before and lasts until July 7th 2016) and a VERY affordable plan, with an added benefit —the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS = Unlimited Talk, Text, Data; 10GB 4G LTE plus a free movie (rental, new release = $7 value) on VUDU every month, per line for $49.88. So not only do we now have an excellent phone, but a we are now able to talk and text just as much as we want, and use 10 GB of data! This is a HUGE change for us, and no loner will I have to worry constantly about going over our plan and will be able to browse my favorite blogs and watch how-to videos without the dreaded feeling of panic that I am going to go over my super low plan.
I have to say though, I am super excited about the added benefit of the $7 dollar rental credit on Vudu! Now we can enjoy a new release under the stars at no additional cost—which is right up my thrifty alley!
To celebrate our new plan and our free movie, we decided to set up a little “popcorn bar” out in our yard. This allows the kids to freely add their favorite sweets and goodies to their popcorn quite easily. I set up all of the various goodies inside of jars and bowls, and gave them each a super convenient movie night lap container ( which you can see later in this post ) to neatly contain all of their goodies!
There are so many options when it comes to what you can add to your popcorn bar! Savory or sweet, the options are absolutely endless and a ton of fun! This little set up require very little prep, and you can use what you have on hand if you don’t want to run out and purchase extra goodies—making for a frugally fun evening!
I simply used containers and bowls I had in my cabinets—no need to be a pinterest perfect Mom here, a little effort goes a long way, and looks quite impressive!
For our bar we put out : jelly beans, sprinkles, trailmix, pretzels, mini mint patties, chocolate covered malt balls, gummi worms, cranberries, mini crackers, chocolate covered caramel and so much more! I also put out paper straws for the adults, as well as red punch flavored sodas—the kiddos sprung for juice boxes, which fit perfectly into their little lap containers.
There are also a great variety of healthier topping options—yogurt covered pretzels, raisins and cranberries to name a few! I also enjoy sprinkling nutritional yeast powder on top of my popcorn as opposed to butter. There are so many simple fantastic ideas that I am sure any family will love!
This is such a fun tradition that we will be able to partake in each and every month thanks to our new plan!
This is such a fabulous service plan, I feel like shouting it from the rooftops! And the fact that my family gets to check out Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone under the stars as an added bonus, is the cherry on top! ( mmm, cherries! Now that’s a thought for a popcorn topping! )
Though I chose one of the more simple options phone wise, I am really enjoying it, and it is definitely a great improvement for our family! Here are a few of the specs:
Walmart Family Mobile Coolpad Rogue Smartphone:
- 4″ WVGA display
- Rear-facing 2MP camera
- Front-facing 0.3MP camera
- Bluetooth compatibility
- Internal memory: 4GB

- 4G capable
- Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS
- 1GHz quad-core processor

Another movie night tip—a great idea for the kids, is to purchase some sort of sturdy container like the one pictured. They work best with several compartments and are fantastic for separating the goodies and keeping things neat and tidy—especially on indoor movie nights 😉 The kids really seem to enjoy having their own little lap container and did such a great job keeping everything contained–even at the popcorn bar getting refills!
Do YOU currently us Walmart Family Mobile, if not have you checked out the fantastic phones and plans available? If you are considering the service, which movie will you choose to spend your VUDU credit on first??

As a Mother of three children I am always looking for fun new ways for my kiddos to learn, and that includes finding bright vibrant books that are not only age appropriate, but are based on subjects that will hold their sometimes short attention spans. With that said, my kids are HUGE animal lovers…HUGE. My son, who is almost 3, often times “is” a dog or cat, so when I learned that Studio Fun International partnered with the ASPCA to create a book series called “Rescue Readers”, I know they were a fit, and would be a hit!
Each story is inspired by a real-life animal rescue story from the pet’s point of view and includes facts and photographs of the actual pet that inspired the story, something that definitely hold my kid’s attention, and teaches them in the process! These readers are set at a 2nd grade level, which is perfect for my older son, and means he can share the stories with his younger brother, who adores being read to!
One of my favorite things about these Rescue Readers, is that not only are these books educational, but the stories drive home the importance of animal care, how to care for your pets and all sorts of great information to prepare them for future pet ownership. This information is VERY vital and I love that they are learning it early in life, preparing them for many years of wonderful relationships with pets.
Wanna know something really cool about the books? Four to five percent of all of the sales of these books go directly to the ASPCA to aid in the continuance of the ASPCA mission! This makes my heart feel warm and fuzzy and when I told my kids, they thought that was pretty darn cool too!
These books are reasonably priced at $3.99 for the paperback Rescue Readers or $15.96 for all four! With prices like that, it makes it even easier to give back to the ASPCA and treat your kids to fun/informative pet filled adventures!
We absolutely love these informative stories in our household and think you will too! 🙂

While I no longer eat ice cream or frozen treats ( sigh ), my three kids sure do! They absolutely love a sweet cold treat any day of the year, but with the weather warming up, they adore running around outside, Popsicle in hand, or having a big bowl of ice cream after they have been swimming.
So many of my memories as a kid in the summer time revolve around fun in the sun activities, and Popsicle was definitely involved! I can’t help but think how lucky my kids are, with all of the great varieties from Unilver ( maker of Breyers, Good Humor, Klondike, MAGNUM Ice Cream and Popsicle ) they are sure to have tons of great memories made with summers full of sweet frozen treats in hand!
