Honey Candles Review & Giveaway!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Recently I was given the opportunity to try out several items from Honey Candles! Upon first inspection I noticed that they are very high quality, they look amazing and the smell like Heaven…seriously! But then I got to thinking, what is the difference between a Beeswax candle and all of the other options out there? I checked out their website and here is what I found :

Beeswax vs. Other Waxes

  • Non-hazardous
  • Non-carcinogenic
  • Dyes are not tested on animals
  • Solvent free
  • Does not contain hazardous additives such as naphtha or naphthalene
  • We use a minute amount of dye in our candles, less than 0.0125%
  • None of the components in the dye is required to be listed in the California Proposition 65 list of cancer causing agents
  • Can be shipped in all weather conditions because of its high melt point

  • Considered pricier than other waxes
  • Beeswax can be combined with other waxes to reduce manufacturing costs, be sure to always look for 100% pure beeswax products

  • Inexpensive (about 9 times less than beeswax)

  • Non-Renewable
  • By-product of fossil fuels
  • The equivalent of inhaling exhaust fumes
  • Creates a large amount of black sticky soot
  • Polymers are added to raise the melting point and improve burning qualities
  • Paraffin candles are known to drip
  • Often scented with artificial fragrance
  • Often bleached and dyed with toxic colorants

Soy Wax

  • Renewable resource
  • No known toxins in the raw wax
  • Biodegradable
  • Low melt temprature
  • Non-carcinogenic

  • Soy products are commonly Genetically Modified, bleached and hydrogenated
  • Aesthetically, soy wax is not pretty and candles often develop bumps and lesions while burning
  • On the light spectrum, soy candles have a cooler tone
  • Soy wax goes rancid without preservatives
  • Some soy wax candles contain additives and hardeners
  • Toxic pesticides are often used on soy crops
  • Soy candle makers are limited by the type of candle they can make because the wax is so soft. They are unable to provide customers with pillars, tapers or ornamentals
  • Requires large amounts of agricultural land and processing
  • Often scented with artificial fragrances
  • Soy wax is difficult to ship during hot weather because it will melt

Palm Wax

  • Palm crops require a lower input of fossil fuels compared to soy
  • Palm oil production creates 3,200 kg/hectare per year and soybean production creates only 351 kg/hectare per year
  • Clean burning and soot free
  • Toxin and carcinogen free
  • Slow burning
  • Renewable resource
  • Not genetically modified

  • Must be imported (mostly from Malaysia)
  • Pesticides are often used for palm plants

I am very very glad that I checked out this information and am even more glad that I discovered the amazingness of the beeswax candle! Image and video hosting by TinyPic First off I tried the beeswax colored Birthday Candle…These candles are ADORABLE. They are so sweet and dainty  and will make any birthday cake seem super sweet and chic! We used several of these candles on my Son’s chocolate birthday cake pictured at the top of this review. They were so lovely and smelled even more delightful! I am so glad that this pack came with enough candles ( 20 )  that I can use them in the future ! They gave out such a warm beautiful glow and created such beautiful photographs ( I would have never known about this if it weren’t for the super helpful tip on the website) These candles have a TWENTY min burn time and can be reused easily.

“Made with all natural Canadian beeswax, coloured with safe and environmentally-friendly dyes, and best of all, beeswax birthday candles won’t drip all over your birthday cake! Try these 100% pure beeswax candles and you’ll never go back! Honey Candles® use only cotton or paper wicks, with no toxins or harmful ingredients, zinc and lead-free, with a tiny amount of natural dye. Handmade from 100% pure beeswax and dipped to perfection. “

Beeswax - Tealight in Clear Cup - Single beeswax candle image   Next come the Tealights! I adore tealights and have multiple candle holders that these sweet little tealights fit perfectly in! However, my favorite way to use these has been in my various Jack-o-Lanterns I have spread throughout my home. They give off a very warm glow and smell heavenly. I also learned a very helpful tip from the Honey Candles website that I would have never realized otherwise : ” Tip: 100% pure bee wax candles produce negative ions that neutralize airborne allergens and contaminants. They are an all-natural air purifier! Light several Honey Candles® tealights around the home for a more refreshing and easier breathe. ” I absolutely love this! My daughter suffers from severe allergies and asthma, and knowing this I will be purchasing more candles to help purify my home!   “Tealights are famous for their versatility, affordability, and convenience – great for setting a relaxing mood around the bathtub, a romantic atmosphere in the bedroom, or even as a back-up light in an emergency kit.

Tealights made of 100% pure beeswax are even more impressive, with a longer burn time that is smoke-free, a warm natural glow and a pleasant honey aroma that will delight your senses. As with all Honey Candles® products, our tealights are environmentally-friendly, handmade with all natural and toxin-free ingredients.

These wonderful tealights come in a clear, heat resistant, plastic cup.”

This candle is the Natural 5×3  round pillar candle . I love the natural color, its so homey and rustic looking, which I love. It goes PERFECTLY with my decor and made an amazing addition to my little trinkets I have on top of my antique piano. I have lit this candle, but haven’t had the heart to fully burn it 😉 I just adore it and the scent that it gives off just sitting unlit! I adore this candle!

Burn Time: 55-65 Hours

Handmade with 100% pure Canadian beeswax, the Honey Candles® Pillar is long-lasting, with a warm glow that is ideal for the dinner table and every romantic occasion. You’ll love the pleasant, natural scent of this pillar candle.

Like all of our 100% pure beeswax candles, the Honey Candles® Natural Round Pillar is eco-friendly and good for your health, with absolutely no carcinogens or hazardous ingredients, wicks made with cotton, and all natural ingredients. The great thing about beeswax pillars is that they produce unique compounds as they burn, which neutralize airborne allergens and toxins. You’ll breathe the difference pure beeswax candles make. Plus, beeswax candles produce a natural glow that is closest to sunlight.

I put this candle in a shabby looking candle holder with some fall inspired potpourri around it. I have decided to order two more candles to go on each side of this candle, possibly in a different size for contrast, but even as is it looks fantastic! I just love the way the natural wax looks! And once again I wish I could convey how wonderfully these candles smell…its not too strong, but a soft sweet smell that has received compliments from all of our recent house guests! In closing I highly recommend these candles! I love the benefits of the beeswax, the look and the sweet smell! I am so glad I was given the opportunity to try them and am thinking very seriously about purchasing more for Christmas gifts, so that others close to me might have the opportunity as well! You can find the Honey Candles website here! I highly recommend you check them out and purchase one of these sweet smelling beauties for yourself! “Honey Candles® Ltd is a small business owned by Roy and Leah Honkanen.

Their story has evolved with their business. As a business matures and grows so do the owners, individually and as a team.

They live in a rural community where most people garden, compost, enjoy the outdoors and respect each other and their environment. They help their neighbors and their neighbors help them. Roy and Leah have been married for over 30 years. They work together every day and still enjoy each other’s friendship as they ski, camp and hike together and spend precious time with their daughters and their families. They are a team.

However a team is bigger than the two of them. Their amazing staff has worked for Honey Candles® almost as long as they have. They have similar values and ethics, both personally and professionally that bond them together.

Over the years each person has learned more about bees, beeswax and beeswax candles and they have learned more about sustainable business practices, customer service, marketing, computers and quality production. They have all developed skills and interpersonal relationships with each other, customers and suppliers. Their business associates have become their friends along the way.

Roy and Leah have worked through personal life-changing challenges and come out stronger. Some business experiences can also be perplexing but they have found that by supporting each other and by receiving the support of their amazing staff and their loyal customers they are inspired to offer the best products and service they can.”
