Sitara Collections

Aside from having absolutely adorable, well made products, Sitara Collections not only contract skilled Indian artisans who are paid fairly for their beautiful work, but they donate a portion of their net proceeds to the Sitarta Foundation, a non-profit organization who is currently supporting the SVV School in India.  The SVV School offers an after-school program and is available to any child in the ancestral village of Sitara founder Linda Singh’s husband, Vinay. You can learn more at SVVIndia.org or www.SitaraFoundation.com .  I know that I love doing my shopping ( especially during the Holiday’s ), where I can not only have a beautiful selection of gifts to choose from, but I can feel good knowing that my dollars are going towards something so important as a child’s education and helping support Indian families make a fair living wage.

Sitara Collections offers absolutely STUNNING gift options that are VERY well made. I received three items and I have absolute confidence that these three things are sturdy enough to last my entire life and can be passed on to my children to enjoy! Quality is something that is VERY important to me, I have limited funds and like purchasing items that will last a long time and cuts down on the waste of repurchasing disposable quality items that just keep getting tossed into the trash, as well as I love being able to find beautiful quality treasures that I can pass on to my children.

Based in New Delhi, Community Friendly Movement’s (CFM) aim is to create opportunities for marginalized artisan communities throughout India. CFM works directly with producers at the bottom of the supply chain to help sell their handmade products to a larger market. Among the groups with which CFM works are the wood and lacquer craftsmen of Etikoppaka, who, with the organization’s assistance, have rediscovered traditional local knowledge that has revived the craft. In addition to connecting artisans to wider markets, CFM helps them improve the quality of their products.

Not only is this adorable little turtle foot scrubber functional, but he is super cute! I have used my foot scrubber on my feet several times ( I have diabetic feet, ew ) and he has done a super great job keeping my feet smooth and healthy! But if I am being completely honest, I have to admit I love this turtle most of all for his good looks 😉 I think he is super duper adorable and he makes a great addition to my bathroom counter, where he sits until I use him! There are several other scrubber options available, all equally cute, and in my opinion would make a super great stocking stuffer, beautiful addition to a nice gift basket or even a super cute function stand alone gift this Holiday season!

This charming ceramic foot scrubber is made by village based potters in the Kathmandu valley. Our Turtle  foot scrubber will help to gently stimulate and exfoliate your skin.

Manuela Ramos provides human rights training to indigenous women artisans in the poorest areas of Peru, and markets the alpaca wool stuffed toys they knit by hand. The organization’s name, comparable to Jane Doe in the U.S., pays homage to the millions of women who anonymously and selflessly contribute to the development of their communities. The Manuela Ramos Casa de la Mujer Artesana program in the Puno region provides Quechua and Aymara women with opportunities to earn a living wage through fair trade production and acts as vehicle for economic development and women’s solidarity.

Linda Singh and her husband Vinay, bought land, and had the school designed and built by an architect in New Delhi, India. They decided to do all this after finding out that 75 children were attending the after-school program at the village community center on a regular basis.

The school started operating in the new building August 2013 and now has three teachers working with 100 students. Although no incentive (such as free books, clothes or food) is offered to the students, they attend regularly and are very engaged in their education. This progam supplements the education they receive from the school they attend during the day, and focuses on English and Math.

To learn more about the school, and how you can make a difference, please visit www.SVVIndia.org today.
